Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

You can very easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Temperaturen steg utover fredagen og plussgradene nådde helt til topps. Lokalt kom det mer enn 30 mm nedbør. Først som snø, men etterhvert som regn. Snøen er våt. Det finnes lag av hard fokksnø og skarelag i snødekket som kan føre til opphopning av vann. Under omlag 400-700 moh viser snøen ingen lagdeling.

I Kanstadbotn steg temperaturen fra -20 til +5 grader i løpet av fredagen.

20 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during the afternoon. -7 °C to 5 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 23. February 2019

8-12 mm precipitation. Moderate gale from southwest. 1 °C to 6 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Fortsatt vind fra sørlig kant, høy temperatur for årstiden og nedbør som vil komme som regn høyt til fjells opprettholder fortsatt stor skredfare på lørdag. Det forventes at det kan gå mange naturlig utløste våte skred natt til lørdag og lørdag formiddag. Utover dagen ventes det en gradvis stabilisering, men enkelte naturlig utløste skred kan fortsatt forekomme også sent på lørdag.
